FAQ

  1. Is there an application fee?

Yes, there is a mandatory and non-refundable application fee for our Galerías section of $3750 Mexican Pesos, plus VAT of 16%. At the time of writing, this is approximately $240 USD (VAT included) at the official exchange rate.

  2. Which payment methods does Material accept?

Payments can be made with any major credit or debit card via our secure payment form. Our online payment processing provider is Stripe.

  3. My payment didn’t process, what can I do?

If for any reason your payment can’t be processed, please write to us at info@material-fair.com so we can identify the issue and help to resolve it.

  4. How does Material select its exhibitors?

Our commitment, as an organization, is to present the most exciting and diverse group of exhibitors possible, while at the same time providing an important and relevant platform for Mexico’s own contemporary art scene.

The process works as follows. Once the application period has ended, our Selection Committee embarks on their mission to carefully review every single application we’ve received.

Each application is evaluated firstly upon the strength of the exhibition proposal, but the committee also takes into consideration the quality of the applicant’s broader exhibition program, its context, and other factors. Applications are first rated independently by each committee member and then further discussed as a group. Based on their assessments and the surrounding conversations, stands are allocated to the top-rated applicants according to the availability of the booth sizes selected by the applicant.

  5. I am an individual artist / collective, can I apply for a booth at Material?

Unfortunately, we do not accept proposals from individual artists or artist collectives.

  6. Can I share a stand with another gallery?

Absolutely. For a shared presentation, both galleries must apply separately and each should propose only the artist or artists that they will respectively contribute. In the Exhibition Proposal section of the application, you can explain clearly the nature of your shared presentation.

  7. Who can apply for Proyectos at Material?

We’ve relaunched our former Projects section as a two-year program, designed to build a valuable support network for emerging Mexican galleries, artist-run spaces, and curatorial projects. This summer of 2023, we’ll be launching applications for the second generation of Proyectos. Young international galleries who wish to participate in Feria Material are encouraged to apply to our Galerías section.

  8. When will I find out if my application was accepted?

The selection committee will begin their evaluation process once the application period has closed on Friday, June 30th, 2023. We expect to send out notifications by August 18th.

  9. I was waitlisted, what does that mean?

If you were waitlisted, that means that your proposal was well received by the Selection Committee but that we didn’t have a sufficient number of stands available (within the categories you selected) to be able to include you. Sometimes circumstances change for the exhibitors who are assigned stands and they then notify us that they’re unable to participate. In those cases, we then invite a waitlisted gallery to take their place.

  10. Can I change my booth presentation after I’ve been accepted?

We understand that a lot can happen in the months between your application and your presentation at the fair. However, if you need to make any changes to your proposed presentation for Feria Material, you must notify us first in order to approve the changes.
