Artists Bio

Dalton Gata
(b. Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, 1977) Lives and works in Coamo (Puerto Rico).

Graduated in 2005 from the Escuela de Diseño Santo Domingo with a BFA in Design. Gata worked as a fashion designer producing two collections before turning to painting full time. He has exhibited widely in the Dominican Republic including in the 27th National Biennial of Visual Arts, Santo Domingo (2013); Ramos Mederos Gallery, Santo Domingo (2014); Lucy Garcia Gallery (2015, 2016, 2017); and the Spanish Cultural Center (2016). In the past year he has exhibited internationally in New York, Charles Moffett Gallery (2018); Guangzhou Gallery, Guanuzhou (2018); and Agustina Ferreyra; Mexico City (2018). In 2018 he also had his first solo show at Embajada, San Juan.

Peter Fend
(b. in Columbus, USA, 1950) Lives and works in New York (USA).

Recent solo exhibitions include ‘​Costa Verso Costa’​, Pinksummer, Palermo (2018); ‘To Be Built’, Galerie Barbara Weiss, Berlin (2015); ‘​Afrika Europa Brücke’​, Oracle, Berlin (2015); and ​‘Rebels Are Reasonable’, Essex Street, New York (2014). Recent group exhibitions that featured his work include the international traveling exhibition ​‘The Ocean After Nature’​ (Independent Curators International, 2016-present); The Second Yinchuan Biennale; ‘​Globale—Exo-Evolution​’, ZKM Karlsruhe; ​‘to expose, to show, to demonstrate, to inform, to offer: Artistic Practices around 1990’​, mumok (Museum Moderner Kunst), Vienna; ​and ‘2050: A Brief History of the Future’​, Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts Belgique, Brussels. In 2018 Fend had a solo exhibition at Embajada, San Juan.

Gabriella Torres-Ferrer
(b. in Puerto Rico, 1987).

She received her BA in architecture in 2012 from Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico. Her work has been selected for and featured in different public art competitions, including Occupy Museum’s 2017 Debt Fair, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. In 2013 she received a scholarship from Beta Local (San Juan) and has participated since in multiple international collectives, such as Basurama and Supersudaca.

Chemi Rosado-Seijo
(b. in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, 1973) Lives and works in San Juan (Puerto Rico).

Chemi Rosado-Seijo graduated from the painting department of the Puerto Rico School of Visual Arts in 1997. In 2000 Rosado-Seijo had his first solo show at the Joan Miró Foundation, Barcelona. He inaugurated the ongoing project El Cerro (2002), working with residents of the El Cerro community to present public art projects, workshops and other community initiatives. Rosado-Seijo has participated in numerous exhibitions and biennials including The Whitney (2017, 2002); Havana (2015); Pontevedra (2010); and Prague (2005). In November of 2018 Rosado-Seijo participated in the first Thailand Biennial. In 2020 he will have a solo exhibition at the Maria & Alberto de la Cruz Art Gallery at Georgetown University, curated by Al Miner.

Claudia Peña Salinas
(b in Montemorelos, Mexico, 1977) Lives and works in Brooklyn (USA) and Mexico City.

She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and received her MFA from Hunter College, New York (2009). She has exhibited at the Queens Museum of Art, New York (2012); El Museo del Barrio, New York (2005); El Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (2006); Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, Mexico City (2015); MSU Broad, Michigan (2018); and most recently was included in a group show at The Whitney Museum, New York, curated by Marcela Guerrero (2018). Residencies and awards include: the Lower Manhattan City Council, Process Space, New York (2016); and SOMA residency, Mexico City (2011). She is a recipient of the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship (2007).


Gallery Statement

Embajada was founded by Manuela Paz and Christopher Rivera in October 2015. Embajada is the combination of an independent self-funded project space and a commercial gallery, inspired by the idea to exist as a diplomatic mission, to create a political context through the use of aesthetic information and driven by the collaborative spirit. Their aim with the exhibition program is to serve as a platform for international dialogue within a Puerto Rican/Caribbean context. Some of their artists have participate in several important exhibitions and Biennials, such as Documenta, Whitney Biennial, Bienal de la Habana, Sala De Arte Público Siqueiros, Sharjah Biennial, Site Santa Fe Biennial, among others.
